About The Color Rainbow
The Color Rainbow is a story about becoming who you are, instead of who you were told you were supposed to be.
I began writing it as a way to make sense of my own life: adoption, family, identity, marriage and divorce, fatherhood, love, loss, work, health, adventure, and the long process of learning to accept myself. Somewhere along the way, I realized the story was not only about me. The circumstances may be mine, but many of the questions are ones most of us eventually face.
Who am I? What actually matters to me? How much of my life did I choose, and how much of it did I simply inherit?
The Color Rainbow is my attempt to answer those questions honestly.
I do not have all of life figured out. In fact, one of the biggest things I have learned is that we probably spend far too much time trying to make everything look figured out. The perfect career. The perfect marriage. The perfect family. The perfect house. The perfect vacation. The perfect version of ourselves.
Life is rarely that clean.
Mine certainly has not been.
But I have come to believe that the uncertainty, mistakes, detours, relationships, adventures, heartbreaks, successes, failures, and unexpected turns are not flaws in the story. They are the story.
The book, one chapter at a time
I am publishing The Color Rainbow here chapter by chapter rather than asking people to wait until the entire book is sitting on a shelf.
New chapters are released every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
Some chapters tell stories. Others step back and ask what those experiences taught me about identity, family, masculinity, acceptance, agency, health, adventure, love, and what it means to build a life that actually feels like your own.
You do not have to share my experiences to see yourself somewhere in them.
That might be the point.
Why subscribe?
Subscribe if you want to follow the rest of The Color Rainbow as it is released. Each new chapter will come directly to your inbox, and you can read the previous chapters in the archive.
More than anything, I hope this becomes a place where people are willing to look honestly at their own stories too.
Not because every part of the story is beautiful.
Because every part belongs to you.
It is the imperfections in life and the colors of you that make your life perfectly yours.
